WHAT IS PRACTICE BASED COMMISIONING?
Practice Based Commissioning (PBC) means the commissioning, or purchasing, of NHS services for each GP practice’s registered patients.
In Andover, the 5 GP surgeries in the town centre, and Derry Down Clinic in St Mary Bourne, have agreed to work collaboratively (known as a locality) so that there are economies of scale and consistency of service provision for all of Andover's 55,000 population.
PBC is intended to: “Continuously improve services for patients, whilst achieving the best health outcomes with the investment made, thereby helping deliver financially sustainable local health economies.”
It aims to put local clinicians at the heart of commissioning decisions as they are best placed to advise on the needs of their patients. Local GPs have identified particular areas where investments of time and resources will greatly improve patient access to, and use of healthcare facilities.
